Otobo is a Huaorani native who decided to value the territory hosting visitors in his little community, Boanamo. Extremely strong, friendly, knowledgeable about Huaorani culture and survival in tropical rainforest, he started creating Otobo’s Amazon Safari in 2007 with the help of two volunteers and some relatives. Otobo is a tireless handyman... he’s an expert canoe driver, a great cook and an exceptional guide, beside being a real jungle man with striking hunting skills. Different than an increasing number of Huaorani who prefer to leave the rainforest attracted to modern society’s comforts and technologies, Otobo firmly believes that life is better close to nature, and the happiness and serenity of his wonderful family are proof that this choice is right. His aim is to preserve Huaorani culture by showing it to tourists and, above all, handing it down to his children.

Ecotourism is a practical alternative to harmful activities such as logging and oil exploration. Otobo’s Amazon Safari brings not only economic benefits to the community of Boanamo, but also provides the incentive for promoting conservation, which is the basis of true ecotourism. After many years of experience, Otobo knows that to share his knowledge and culture with visitors is probably the only way to preserve the rainforest against anthropogenic threats and to encourage environmental awareness. Choosing Otobo’s Amazon Safari you enjoy pristine tropical nature and participate actively in the Huaorani way of life allowing you to experience not only local culture but amazing wildlife.
